Now and Then

The Market Fresh crew - Marli, Melissa, me, and Cathryn
My first ever "official" job was working as a cashier at a grocery store, where I made a few close friends. Soon after, the store went out of business; we lost our jobs, but not each other (awww!). Nine graduations, two weddings, numerous moves, and one baby later, we still make sure that we see each other at least once a year. After a couple months of organizing, we all made our way to Marli's house in Pembroke, where her and her husband (who works in the army) now live.

It was a fun and relaxing weekend. We brought each other up to speed on our new work/family/life balance, put together a Greek-themed potluck (I brought baklava from the Nutty Greek Bake Shop in Ottawa, a must try), played games and hung out with this adorable fella' :)

Melissa's wonderful son Wyatt!
The next morning, Marli made us all some yummy french toast before we headed back home to our respective cities.

Thanks to Marli who hosted, Melissa for making us all special gifts (including a slideshow of the last eight years :) as well as Cathryn who drove Holly and I up from Ottawa. Miss you ladies and see you next year! x

Brunch "crashers"

This past weekend, Antoine and I made the 417 treck to Ottawa and attended a beautiful wedding at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. Seeing as my parents were out of town, we gave my sister a ring to see if her and her boyfriend wanted to go for brunch and boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise! Turns out, Megan was already planning to host a brunch with a couple of her friends and their husband's (plus one baby!) and invited us to join.

Love the decor at my sister's - this is retro record player!
As everyone filtered in, we sipped on mimosas and had fun entertaining little Freddie who was quite the charmer!

We all admired the beautiful spread Megan and Matt had prepared for us...

Everything was so well planned and delicious (from the top): Most Egg-cellent Breakfast Strata by the amazing ladies from Looneyspoons, Polish ham, Oka and goat cheese with crackers, cranberry orange scones with strawberry jam and banana bread (both our mum's recipes freshly made by Megan that morning!), grapefruit and avocado salad, and fruit salad. Just an overload of goodness.

Thanks for letting us "crash" your brunch Megs! xo

Butter(milk) makes everything better

Nothing says Saturday morning quite like some fluffy pancakes, and they just aren't the same without buttermilk. Add some homemade caramel au fleur de sel (from this lovely lady) and some berries and you are just about ready to tackle your 'to do' list for Saturday afternoon. x

Something good

Sunday morning: sipping on a coffee (photo à la adbeus) after a long lie-in & listening to some Alt + J (∆).  If everyday started like this, life would be bliss.

Thanks to Angie for the new espresso cups :)
