An Easter Egg Hunt with a Twist

This Easter Sunday, we offered to host a brunch, as well as an egg hunt for Antoine's niece. She has recently started reading and we were given the hint that she loves guessing games. This was very useful because instead of hiding eggs all over the house (to perhaps be unfound/forgotton), I made little packages of chocolate eggs, hair clips, and a sticker book and gave her riddles to solve in order to find their location. For example, "I am behind a musical instrument you are learning to play" or "Where does Emma make her cakes, cookies, and muffins?"



She also had to take a photo of herself as the Easter bunny.


The grand finale was a chocolate egg from Les Chocolats de Chloé, it was happily devoured by all parties before any photo was taken, though ;-)

Brunch was waffles with an option of sweet or salty toppings. I opted for both, of course :-)

In Which a Pig's Head was Consumed...

"Tête de cochon" : A Québécois expression for someone who is stubborn, or disagreeable.  

I learned this weekend that it can also be a delicious dish. 

Let me explain...

We had made plans for brunch to see our friends Myriam and Euclide and their lovely 7-month old, Henri, this past weekend. I innocently proposed to bring some pastries, fruit, cheeses, etc., but little did I know that they had other plans up their sleeves! 

This time of year is called "le temps des sucres" here in Quebec and our friends' were inspired to try a recipe from the cookbook based on the recipes served at the sugar bush of the (in)famous chef from the restaurant Au Pied de Cochon

This recipe, to be exact.

When we arrived, the pig's head was already in the oven, so we got cracking on the sides: mini potatoes, asparagus, and brussels sprouts. After 4 hours of cooking, she was ready.



The dining experience was equal parts shock, awe, adventure, and delight.




It was decided that the best way to digest the beast was to go for a walk. With Henri snuggled in his stroller, we walked to a park where an impromptu snow-fight broke out between the couples. 


It's all fun and games, until someone splits their trousers (!).

Caramelized Apples

...because I need fruit in the morning. Plus it's Saturday so, hey, let's smother said fruit in butter and sugar ;-)

First off, slice a couple of crisp apples...

 New knives make light work :)


Melt a pat o' butter...



Add a couple tablespoons of brown sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of cinnamon and fry 'dem apples for about 10 minutes...
